About the Social Registry
Vision & Purpose
The "Social Registry" for West Bengal is a transformative data infrastructure project supported by the World Bank. Its primary purpose is to act as an integrated, dynamic information system for social protection across the state.
By serving as a one-stop platform for the intake, registration, and determination of eligibility, the registry strengthens the coverage and targeting of assistance, ensuring that poor and vulnerable groups receive the support they need without unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles.
The 'Jai Bangla' Platform
Developed by the Government of West Bengal (GoWB), the registry is a crucial component of the overarching 'Jai Bangla' platform. It features a proactive "Trigger Management Platform" designed to automatically identify citizens eligible for various benefits, drastically reducing the need for individual, manual applications.
Unified DBT Infrastructure
Managed in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre, this initiative aligns with the state's broader effort to consolidate all Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes. It facilitates everything from initial registration to final fund disbursement securely and efficiently.
- Baseline Data: Initially utilizes the Socio-Economic Census of 2011, scaling to cover all potential applicants.
- Aadhaar Integration: Ensures transparent, direct delivery of funds to verified beneficiaries.
- Real-world Impact: Successfully managing major schemes like the Annapurna Yojana (₹3,000/month for eligible women) and various social pensions.
